AMC Groove serves as the design system for the reimagined American Motors Corporation (AMC), an automobile company.
The Groove app, designed for electric vehicles (EVs), draws inspiration from AMC's history and potential. By blending vintage aesthetics with a modern touch, AMC Groove empowers users to remotely manage their EVs.
The app enables users to receive car updates, regulate climate settings, navigate routes, bookmark locations, and seamlessly connect their EV app with their AMC vehicle.
Prompt: Design System
Duration: 15 Weeks
Software: Figma
Main Objectives
Rejuvenate the Brand
AMC, founded in 1954 and merged with Chrysler in 1987, aims to revive its legacy through this design system. The goal is to craft an appealing EV app that pays homage to the vintage style while incorporating a modern twist, aligning with contemporary design standards.
Creating a System
Beyond the EV companion app, the design system establishes a set of guidelines and rules. This framework serves as a reference for future designers and developers, enabling them to replicate the rebranded style consistently, understand its purpose, and easily communicate it to others.
From Old to New
Over time, designs undergo evolution and transformation. In the case of this app, the emphasis was on a modern rebrand that is clear and concise yet evokes a sense of the old brand. Through strategic choices in typography and color, the brand underwent a significant transformation, as illustrated below. The original logo is depicted on the left, while the new AMC rebrand is showcased on the right.

Reflection
2023: My main focus while developing this companion app was to learn the importance of a design system, then taking what I learned and implementing it into my projects.
2026: This year i want to rework the flow and interactions to create a smoother transition between screens and user efficiency. Putting a heaviet emphasis on how/why this design is different from the rest. AMC Groove 2.0
